During Advent we anticipated the birth of the Baby Jesus and began our journey to Bethlehem by lighting one candle each week on the Advent Wreath. Each week had an emphasis such as Hope, Peace, Joy, or Love.
We sang the traditional carols. Anthems by the Kirk Choir included What Can I Give Him”; “Celtic Silent Night”; “Pavane for a Silent Night.” Soloist Jeff Davis sang “Mary Did You Know” and soloist Brighton Hathaway sang “Away in a Manger.” Jonathan Gorst provided special piano music each week.
A highlight was the Community Children’s Christmas Pageant, directed by Marisa Gorst. Narrator Reed Flentge read the Christmas story, as children portrayed Mary, Joseph, shepherds, kings, and more. Cast included the following: Mary – Brighton Hathaway; Joseph – Tanner Merritt;
Angel Gabriel – Paige Flentge; Angels – Bryn and Sophia Thomas, Lyla Mount; Shepherds – Jake Kazlauskas, Quinn Legall, and Colee Luetke; Sheep – Mae and Crosby Luetke; Kings – Ari Gammill, Sam Hathaway, and Briggs Mount.
Christmas Eve was very special as we lit candles and sang “Silent Night” in Glenwood’s oldest church, established in 1886. Rev. Melinda Veatch led worship.
