Our Pastor
The Rev. Bruce McBurney joined First Presbyterian Church of Glenwood Springs as pastor in the spring of 2024.
Bruce was born in Houston, Texas. His father was a doctor in the Navy so the family moved around during Bruce’s early years until they settled in the Roaring Fork Valley in 1972, living in Carbondale and then Marble.
He graduated from Hardin-Simmons University with a bachelor of education degree. He and Carolyn met while in school in Abilene, Texas. They were married in 1986 and moved to York, Pennsylvania, where she worked in television marketing. Her work took them to Phoenix, Arizona, where they lived for 34 years. Their child, Robyn, was born in 1992 and now lives with her grandmother in Redstone.
His wife, Carolyn, is a lifelong Presbyterian, who brought Bruce into the fold when they married! She received a theater degree from McMurry University in Abilene. Through the years, she has remained very involved in theater, with a passion for acting and directing.
Her career became television, where she worked in marketing and promotion until 2005, when she left and became office manager for the Presbyteries of Grand Canyon and de Cristo until Bruce’s job took them to Wyoming. She is passionate about women’s issues, having recently served as moderator of Presbyterian Women in Wyoming and this summer is joining the national board.
Bruce graduated from Fuller Southwest in Phoenix with an M.Div. in 2016. Before he joined us in Glenwood, he served a yoked pair of congregations in southeast Wyoming since 2018. Besides pastoring, he has chaired the Presbytery evangelism and the church leader development committee, and was a delegate to the 2022 General Assembly and moderator-elect of the Presbytery.
They are thrilled for this opportunity to serve our church and community and look forward to a vibrant ministry together!
